TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M men's basketball standouts Antonio Baker and
Jaquan Sanders were recognized in the SWAC preseason honors, with Baker named Preseason SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-SWAC, and Sanders selected to the Preseason First Team All-SWAC.
Baker was a disruptive force on the perimeter last season, finishing with 36 steals in 29 games. He averaged 9.9 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 45.3% from the field (105-of-232) and 83.8% at the free-throw line (67-of-80).
He posted a season-high five steals against Albany State on Dec. 15, when he also scored 19 points, handed out a season-best seven assists and made eight field goals. Baker matched his scoring high of 19 points on Feb. 21 against Alabama State, adding a season-high nine rebounds in the game. He also had two blocks at Alcorn State on Feb. 16, along with a season-high seven made free throws.
Sanders was one of the league's most dangerous backcourt scorers and playmakers. He averaged 11.7 points and 3.6 assists in 30 games, connecting on 59 three-pointers at a 34.1% clip. He also made 83.7% of his free throws (72-of-86).
His season high of 24 points came against Grambling State on Jan. 12, when he knocked down four 3-pointers. He hit a season-best six 3-pointers in just 33 minutes at Jacksonville on Dec. 2, scoring 20 points. Sanders dished out a season-high 10 assists at Southern on Feb. 26 and had a 22-point performance at Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 3.
